How to Manage Anxiety and Stay Grounded
Stress and Anxiety: A Reality Check
It’s no secret that, at times, daily life can feel overwhelming. Stress and anxiety sneak in, and suddenly, we feel off-balance and out of sync with ourselves. But the good news is that you can, in fact, manage these feelings and stay grounded.
Exercise Regularly: Get Moving!
Regular physical activity is a fantastic way to manage stress and anxiety. Exercise increases the production of endorphins – your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters which are often called the body’s natural painkillers and mood elevators.
Breathing Techniques: Inhale, Exhale
Breathing techniques can provide immediate relief from stress and anxiety. Try this–take a slow breath in through the nose, hold it for a moment, then breathe out slowly through the mouth. This technique can help you feel more grounded and focused.
Healthy Eating: Good Food, Good Mood
Did you know that certain foods can help to reduce stress? Foods rich in Vitamin C, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids are known to decrease anxiety and improve mood. So the next time you feel anxious, reach out for some oranges, leafy greens, or salmon!
Get Enough Sleep: Sweet Dreams
A good night’s sleep can do wonders for your mental health. When you are well-rested, you’re better able to cope with stress. So make sure you’re getting enough sleep and following a regular sleep schedule.
Connect with Others: It’s Good to Talk
Staying connected with your family, friends, and community can provide emotional support during times of stress. If you feel comfortable, share your feelings of anxiety with them; they’ll probably have some reassuring words of advice!
